West Wing. Seven seasons. Four months. One (long) post. [16 May 2007|04:31pm]

[ mood | contemplative ]

Don't know if this is allowed here but seeing as my flist isn't very WW-centered I want to share this post around a bit.

I just completed a West Wing marathon that I started back in February. From the pilot right to Tomorrow. No episode jumping so I watched everything even though I knew I didn't like some of them. I felt the need to ramble after this so I talked about just about everything I could think over the 7 seasons and would be up for a big discussions about my thoughts and yours.

The discussion is here

Brad testifies to Senate Appropriations on Autism [21 Apr 2007|01:55am]

[ mood | content ]

On Tuesday, our own Josh Lyman made a statement to the Senate Appropriations Committee to tell the Senate and Congress why they need to fully fund the Combating Autism Act. If we ever needed any more reasons to love this man then add this to the list. He seemed a little nervous but did very well.

Brad's written testimony

Video can be found here. Brad's statement starts around 1:20:30.

Just a few random moments that do it every time...

~Zoe taking pics of Jed giving the speech at her graduation
~Amy asking "Do you love Josh?" *Donna goes quiet*
~Toby announcing the birth in the bull pen

This show is amazing...*goes back to season 4*

Heads up: Martin Sheen in Empire Magazine [29 Mar 2007|02:47pm]

[ mood | excited ]

Just got my lovely new Empire magazine through the door for the month of May and as well being greeted by an awesome Spiderman 3 cover the large interview inside is with our very own Martin Sheen. I haven't had a chance to read it yet but my experience with these is that they are always in-depth and a great way to get to know the person being interviewed.

Jason O'Toole, who interview Martin on the university campus over a weekend said, "I was fortunate to spend the whole weekend with Sheen. We went out to a restaurant, took a few walks and even went to church together, all the while discussing movies, books and politics. He struck me as an honest and humble man - not to mention surprisingly forthcoming!"

Empire Magazine should hit shelves in the UK tomorrow priced at £3.70.

Favourite WW Quote: "This guy's walking down the street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can't get out. A doctor passes by and the guy shouts up, "Hey, can you help me out?" The doctor writes him a prescription, throws it down the hole, and moves on. Then a priest comes along and the guy shouts up, "Father, I'm down in this hole--can you help me out?" The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole, and moves on. Then a friend walks by. "Hey Joe, it's me--can you help me out?" And the friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, "Are you stupid? Now we're both down here!" And the friend says, "Yeah, but I've been down here before, and I know the way out." (beat) As long as I got a job, you got a job--you understand?" *sniff*
What attracted you to the West Wing? I watched The American President on TV because of Michael J. Fox, loved it and remembered the 'guy' who wrote it did a TV show with Martin Sheen as the Prez so I searched it out (this was when it was on at like 1am on C4, season 3) and have been hooked ever since. I can tell you my first episode was 100,000 Airplanes on April 14th 2003. I figured that out a year or so ago, I have no idea how but it seems to add up.

Martin Sheen Studying in Ireland [01 Dec 2006|07:33pm]

Article taken from Today's Belfast Telegraph...

As the US president, he was the most powerful man on Earth. Now he is a university student in Galway.

Actor Martin Sheen, star of the tv series The West Wing, wanted to enrich his life and get back to his Irish roots. The 66 year old is studying philosophy, English literature and oceanography for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the National University of Ireland in Galway.

Appearing on RTE's Tubridy tonight recently, the actor who played president jed bartlet said of george w bush " he certainly didnt win the first election and the second was doubtful." Asked by Ryan Tubridy if he would ever run for president, Sheen said, "No, i'm not qualified. I wouldnt last long in politics."

The actor confirmed he had been arrested frequently for his political protests. He said "I believe in non-violent civil disobedience. You have to be prepared for the cost. I'm a very liberal Irish Catholic. Since 9/11, we've gone from protector to paranoia."

He said studying in Ireland "is one of the great adventures in my life. I have always had this fantasy about studying in Ireland". Chatting more about The West Wing and the similarities between his on-sreen persona and his own values, Sheen spoke of his disapproval of the political state of his country. "Arrogance is ignorance matured," he said.

Sheen said, "I always had a fantasy about going to college because I left after high school and, for the courses I want to do, NUIG is the best,"

Sheen attended high school in his native Dayton, Ohio. He said he deliberately failed his entrance exam to the University of Dayton so he could pursue his dream of acting in New York city instead. His mother, Mary Anne Phelan, went to the United States from Co.Tipperary.

"I have been coming to Ireland since 1973. I have many cousins in Tipperary and i have been in love with Ireland since I first came here," Sheen said.

In November edition of the university's student Magazine, he was asked about George W Bush and replied,"I have been described as an actor who thinks he is president, but he is a president who thinks he is an actor,"

First of all I must say how glad I am that I found a place where I can talk about TWW without fear of being spoiled.

Sorry for all the semi-colons - my comma key's broken. I can't code for the same reason so no lj-cut I'm afraid.

name: Sara

Favorite West Wing Character: Josh; Will; CJ; Sam.

Favorite West Wing Couple: Josh & Donna (duh); The President & First Lady.

Favorite Season: If you're forcing me to pick: 1 & 2.

Favorite Episode: You're kidding right? Off the top of my head: The pilot; Evidence of Things not Seen; Celestial navigation; The Crackpots And These Women; The Supremes; noel; Eppur Si Muove; Holy night; Angel Maintenance; the episode that was on More4 the week before last.

Biggest West Wing Let Down: Come back Sam! And Ainsley!

Favourite WW Quote: I say again; I'm supposed to chose? See my icon. Also: "You've got a big brain and a good heart and an ego the size of Montana." "Are you saying that not only did you invent a secret plan to fight inflation but now you don't support it?" "So many women; so little charm." "I am making a mental note of all those who are sniggering and even as I speak am planning appropriate retribution."

What attracted you to the West Wing? I can't remember why I started watching. I kept watching because of the humour; intelligence; wit; characters and story lines.
